1000 Books Before Kindergarten

The Grande Prairie Public Library is excited to announce the return of their early literacy initiative, 1000 Books Before Kindergarten. Designed to foster a love of reading from an early age, strengthen the bond between parents and children through shared reading experiences, and build crucial early literacy skills that prepare young learners for academic success.

How It Works:

  1. Read Together: Make reading a daily habit with your child. Whether it's picture books, fairy tales, or audiobooks, every book counts!
  2. Track Your Progress: Use GPPL’s special tracking booklet to keep a record of the books you’ve read together.
  3. Celebrate Milestones: Enjoy rewards along the way! For every 100 books read, your child will earn a special milestone prize to celebrate their progress.
  4. Complete the Challenge: Once you reach the 1000-book mark, your child will have completed the challenge and will be recognized with a special certificate and completion prize.

Why It Matters:

  • Early Exposure: Regular reading from birth stimulates language development and cognitive skills.
  • Bonding Time: Shared reading fosters a close relationship between you and your child, creating cherished moments.
  • School Readiness: Building a strong foundation in literacy equips children with the skills they need for success in kindergarten and beyond.

Take part in this exciting journey to cultivate a lifelong love of reading and to give your child a head start in their educational journey. Visit the Grande Prairie Public Library to sign up, get your tracking materials, and start reading today!
